Handmade Gifts (Part 2)

I have been busy making gifts for Christmas and birthdays in December. SPOILER ALERT! lol

I used 6 pieces of cardboard and covered them in fabric. Then I sewed the pieces together by hand to create cubes. I made one large cube that opens and one small cube that fits inside. Then I made a drawstring bag to put it all in :)

This would be fun for a toddler to play with. The second smaller cube rattles.

I’d like to finish blankets to go inside the bags along with the cubes. So many gifts, so many crafts, so little time!

I have plans to make 4 of these sets. But sewing the sides together by hand takes some time! And makes my hands sore after a while. But the matching little drawstring bags are so adorbale. I love this project, it has been lots of fun. The strings on the bags can easily be changed. I just used what I had avail at home for now.

I need to finish making cubes and crocheting  blankets.

peace.

Handmade Gifts

I made this lovely scarf to give as a birthday present. Her fav colors are pink & purple so I hope she enjoys this. It’s very long, meant to be wrapped around at least once, if not twice. This will be very warm for winter in MN and CO.

This is a box I am working on for one of my nieces. Originally I was going to have it enclosed with some sort of beads or bells inside to make it rattle. Then I decided to leave the last top piece only sewn on one side so it can be opened. But I didnt decorate both sides of the cardboard. So when you opened the box, it was ugly inside. So then I decided to make some sort of a bag liner on the inside… well, now it doesnt close that great. So I put a gromet in the top and bottom and need to purchase some ribbon to run through. Then it can be tied shut. Sort of an experimental project. I plan to make a few more smaller boxes for her to play with and stack. I just used cardboard covered in fabric and hand sewed the sides together to create a cube.

Banner Madness

I finished sewing the BITCH banner for my swap partner and I received mine in the mail. The one made for me says Bite Me Bitch. So cute and funny. I love how colorful the one is that was made for me.

I first made each banner piece. Each piece is double sided (sewn inside out and then flipped). Then I cut out my letters and long strips to make the fabric ruffle edges. I cut a long strip for the top piece. The ends are open so a rod can go through. Otherwise is can be hung by tacs.

Crocheted Scarf

This lovely teal scarf is done with the Double Crochet. The colored border is also a Double Crochet. In the past few days I have made 3 new scarves.

Winter Is Here…

I have been busy crocheting lately. I made 2 new scarves that will be very warm for winter. The black and teal scarf was done with a J Hook. For the white scarf I did a combo of  J and K Hooks. (J for white and K for the colored border). Done with a combo of Half Double Crochet and Single Crochet.

The white scarf is longer than the teal and black one. White measures 85 inches and the teal is 68 inches.

XMAS Craft Links

I like reading craft blogs to get cool ideas and see neat crafts. So here’s some cool projects I’d like to try soon and I thought I would share the links…

When I was a kid I LOVED shadowboxes! I sort of forgot about them till seeing this link and then of course I smiled and remembered how much I used to play with them as a kid. And now I have to make one: http://www.allfreecrafts.com/christmas/shadow-box.shtml

I think this is a good idea and can be adapted. A Christmas tree would work just as well as a snowman and it could be a wall hanging or an ornament. http://www.allfreecrafts.com/christmas/craft-foam-snowman.shtml

Handmade Dora Banner

This is a handmade Dora The Explorer banner. It can be hung up in a bedroom or playroom. It would also look good for birthday parties. The ribbon and strings of beads were hand sewn on. The white top part is open so a rod can slide through to hang the banner. Otherwise it can be hung up with thumb tacs.

These banners are really fun to make because the possibilities are endless. They could spell anything and be decorated with anything.

A Few New Things…

I am doing a Swap on Swap-Bot.com for a cussword banner. Sounds fun, doesnt it??

Banner Pieces

Banner pieces

First I had to cut out a piece for each letter. I made mine double sided. Makes them more sturdy and also the banner looks finished and nice.

Then I cut out the letters and strips for a ruffled edge.

BITCH Banner

I still need to make a long strip to run across the top connecting the whole thing. This has been a fun project. Maybe because I get to use a cussword or maybe cause I’ve never made a banner before. But I’d definitely like to make some more of these. I see a lot of possibilities….like baby ones, or pretty fabric ones that dont say anything, or perhaps a cute one that says Princess……

B Bitch

I also made some new magnets. These are collages on cardboard. Then the cardboard is attached to the magnet.

Red Ribbon Bookmark

I made this lovely bookmark with cardboad, cardstock, and ribbon. I enhanced it with some glitter accents on the flowers.

  3 magnets

I made a few easy to make magnets. First  I made paper collages on cardboard. I sewed around the edges and sewed around the different pieces of paper. Then I attached the cardboard to some magnets I purchased  from JoAnns. My camera is not the best so here’s a mix of some indoor and outdoor photos. Enjoy.

I used everything from lace, paper scraps, buttons, stickers, and thread to decorate these. Sewing over the paper adds a fun touch.
